I am Char Barnes, and I have been gardening at the same southwestern Connecticut house for more than twenty years. During that time it has gone from a neglected plot to a picturesque garden with paths and curved beds loaded with flowers. I have planted trees, shrubs, perennials, and annuals.
Everything on this site is based on my personal experience and opinion, and I have plenty of both.
The original Binney Park Master Plan represented all the trees (existing and proposed) with tiny circles that are not drawn to scale and do not show the ultimate size of the trees. Unlike actual trees, they are all the same size and they do not show the trees’ impact.
This map has each tree represented by a circle showing its mature spread. The green tree are existing trees and the blue circles show proposed trees.
Two things are immediately clear: many trees in the southern portion of the park can be planted without cutting down existing trees and the proposed trees along Sound Beach Avenue will make it impossible for passers by to see the park.
